The Family That Works Together . . .

Someone once said that if you can make a living doing something you enjoy, you will never work a day in your life. I can attest that this is true, and I'd like to add that it's even better if you enjoy the people you work with!

At least that's what we've found at Flipoutz, and I know that's what members of Kidzforce have found as well. A secret to success for many is to form a team with family members who can provide support and good ideas.

Family businesses are the focus of an upcoming PBS Biz Kid$ featuring Erin, Lachlan, and Jake, inventors of Flipoutz (www.flipoutz.com). The Johnson kids agree that the best thing about their family business is working together. But working with each other can also be the worst thing. . . unless you are prepared. According to Lachlan, there comes a time when you all have to remember to do what's best for the business instead of just trying to win an argument with your little brother (or sister, or mom, or dad...). It's also important to remember that you are a family first, and to have rules about when you are a family business, and when you are just a family. Of course, when you all love what you are doing, there is bound to be some overlap!

Check out Episode 513 of Biz Kid$ airing on UNC-TV (www.unctv.org) (www.unc.org/kids) and UNC Kids (May 2nd at 5:30 pm and reairing at 1:30 am or 9:30 on May 3rd) to learn more about the pros and cons of family businesses. Actually, we think it's a good idea to check out Biz Kid$ anytime. Biz Kid$ is a cool show that encourages kids to be entrepreneurs and shows them how to make and manage money - it's also really fun to watch!

We are sending a big shout out to the experts at Biz Kid$ for providing Kidzforce with great resources to help us learn more about business. Watch for more to come about Biz Kid$, but check your local listings now to find out when it is airing in your area, and you can see what it's all about at http://bizkids.com/ .
